River Fishing Outing

An opportunity for amateur river-fishing adventure and picnic.

Experience traditional fishing implements and methods.
Traditional fishing rods made of bamboo, line, sinker and float apparently have been known to have higher catch, but that is on the list to be proved wrong
Baits such as cotton worked into wet pita bread easily attract rudd, koi carp, trout and eel, while catfish seem to be almost exclusively drawn by earthworms.

One popular fishing spot is located at the confluence of the Waikato and Waipā Rivers and its access is via the public park called The Point at the end of Bandstand Road off the Lower Waikato Esplanade. Although more than a 90 minute drive from Auckland, this is the only accessible spot that we know.
Fish such as rudd, perch, tench, catfish, goldfish (carp), koi carp, brown & rainbow trout and eels are usually found in in these rivers.
Experts say that a good river fishing day is when the breeze is minimal and therefore almost no turbulence on the surface of the water. In all cases, you are bound to catch fish only if the LORD provides a favourable weather, draws fish to. your bait, and then it depends on your skill to land it.
Fish in rivers are active just after dawn and before dusk, and biting is rampant from about 5.30 am to 7.00am or 5.00pm to 8,30pm. Once dark, eels are a more likely catch, but are generally very aggressive and extremely difficult to de-hook them.
